“Salaam and good evening to you, worthy friends” (Aladdin). I’d like to say that the last six months have been full of excitement and wonder. Alas, it was not entirely so. I got back “home” some time in the middle of October, and my “vacation” pretty much ended. The business that allowed me to travel around the U.S. over the summer, got busier than expected and ended up taking much of my time, (between working and commuting). I left when it was dark and got back when it was dark. I haven’t see many new things.
I won’t lie. There probably were times when I could have kept on adding to this blog, but something still seemed to keep me from doing so. While “on the road,” I did a lot more. I wrote more on the novels I’ve been working on, kept up with the blog, took on business and creative projects, all while seeing “the sights.” I guess, it’s true what they say, “a body in motion” yada yada. When I got back home, though, and was faced with the same old, I DID the same old. Add that to the fact that winter makes all of us lazy: probably the lack of real sunlight….
So, here I am, paddling up a semi-frozen river, figuratively, trying to get myself back. It’s slow going, as one would imagine, but I’m making progress. I still get inspiration in the same places that other people do, like while driving and in the shower, you know, places where you can’t really do anything about it. I can’t tell you how many ideas I have lost down the drain with the shampoo. My “To Do” list is through the roof as well.
Perhaps, I should lock myself in a room with my computer and pump out a novel. Did Stephen Crane do the same thing? I often wonder what sacrifices these prolific authors made in pursuit of the craft. Did he have a steady job, or children to tend to? Stephen King was some how able to write a few novels under those conditions before me got his break. I read that many writers carve out a chunk of time every day for such a thing. Eh, who needs sleep….
