So, some of you may have noticed, I didn’t post last week. As I said in my initial post, I would post as long as I had good internet. Well, last week fell into that category. For those of you whom may not know, I’ve been traveling around the U.S. for the last year, going from RV campground to RV campground. The internet reliability is always a gamble. As it is, I’m writing this on the road… on my cell phone. For those whom are interested, I’m going to be starting a travel blog as well.
The traveling brings me to this week’s story: Autumn and Halloween. I’m from New England, lived most of my life there, and Autumn is always the best season of the year: the colors of changing leaves; the crisp air; the unique smells of wood fireplace and apple pie. Sure, winter has Christmas, and, I like that, too, but that’s all that’s really good about winter. The snow gets old quickly.
Last year, at this time, I was in Florida. It’s a nice enough place, depending on what you’re looking for, but it doesn’t hold a candle to New England for Autumn and Halloween. Since then, I’ve been going around the country looking for an area/state that has everything I’m looking for, such as Autumn, self-sustainability, good business prospects, and good schooling. So far, I’ve just been disappointed.
I was in Montana for the last two weeks. I thought it would be a good place for everything I was looking for, but the towns are so far apart and so small. Most importantly, there aren’t nearly enough deciduous trees, that is, trees whose leaves change with the weather. I think part of the problem is the history that exists in New England. For example, there’s Salem, MA, a high point for the Witch Trials of the late 17th century. Because of that, it’s going to be difficult to find a place. I’ve seen quite a lot of houses in the last week, and very few of them actually decorated for the holiday. I have to say, that’s important.
So, the search continues. I have a couple of possibilities: I hear that Michigan is pretty, (no pun intended), good. If you think you know the perfect place for Autumn/Halloween, feel free to click the link at the top of this post and leave a comment. Also, I do checkins on Swarm regularly.
